Imagine driving down the highway in the middle of the night. It’s late out and there are not many cars on the road. Maybe the widows are rolled down and the radio is playing during the otherwise uneventful ride. Suddenly, you notice a pair of headlights approaching. Initially, it may look like the car is safely on the other side of the road, but in an instant it is clear that the car is on the wrong side of the road and the headlights are coming straight at you.

These horrific wrong-way accidents can be devastating and fatal, especially when they happen on a highway where cars travel at high speeds. This was recently the case when a Connecticut man caused an accident that not only resulted in life-threatening injuries for himself, but the fatality of a 20-year-old man. Early reports indicate that the young victim was driving his pickup truck on Interstate 84 about 1:30 a.m. when the 46-year-old driver of a Honda Accord crashed into the truck. The Honda had been traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway when the wrong-way accident occurred.

The young driver of the pickup truck was killed in the accident and the driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries which reports indicate are life-threatening. The accident is still under investigation.

So far, there authorities have not been able to report why the driver of the Honda was traveling the wrong way down the highway. In similar cases, a driver is found to be drunk or impaired by drugs at the time of a wrong-way crash. These drivers are often extremely reckless and can cause irreparable damage because of their poor decisions. If a negligent driver causes an accident, victims of the accident and their families have the right to pursue compensation from the driver responsible for the crash.
